There are a number of natural features and elements that can give the feeling of going back to nature and replicate the experience which we consider to be "Natural Play".
Play logs can be used for a string of activities such as balance beams, steps, seating or a table. Children make up their own games like pretending that they are crossing shark infested waters whilst trying to stay on the log. Logs can also be built up and used as taller features to encourage adventure play.
Plants that are native to your area including lavender, sunflowers, trees and shrubs are perfect when creating natural play spaces. Consider having an earthed area against a solid fence where children are encouraged to plant their own trees and nurture their own plants on return visits to their nature garden.
Rocks, boulders & stepping stones are excellent for pretend play and can be laid out in a number of ways to encourage climbing and make believe. When placing stepping stones, consider making the last one big enough for at least three children to stand on at once. Kids love to make up games, inventing their own rules as they go along.
Dirt and mounds! ? Possibly a parents nightmare but definitely something that children love, whether it is a large mound of soil, grassed mound or a tunnel where kids knees get muddy as they crawl through. Remember, we are encouraging natural play so relax and let them play!
Sand and water ? Children love sand and water play. There are huge benefits for all ages and abilities. Try placing water access within distance of the sand to make building sand castles a real possibility. For customers wishing to go really big, how about creating a GIANT sand area and including one or two of our large BoldR or TrainR climbing walls, adding adventurous play for teens and sand together into an inspiring space for the whole community.
